Vintage Lao or Northern Thai Sticky Rice Basket 7 7/8” Tall

This bamboo woven basket is designed to hold sticky (glutinous) rice, allowing moisture and heat to evaporate. It is usually lined with a bamboo or other leaf inside, or a plastic bag in more modern times. The top of the basket can be removed for serving sticky rice. Usually there is a braided string attaching the top to the bottom through the loops on the sides. 
 
The exterior of ours, decorated with geometric designs, is faded from sunlight. You can see the original colors inside the lid. The end of one of the wood cross legs is cracked, but the basket still stands without wobbling. The waving on  another leg is unravelling. Inside there is some cleaning needed but we suspect most people would plan  to use this for decorative purposes.
