TJ 001 Buddhist Monk's Stole (Ohi)

TJ 001 Buddhist Monk's Stole (Ohi)

SKU: TJ 001
$400.00Price

Featuring two kinds of dragons amid clouds, this antique ohi is in relatively good condition with silk embroidered front and orange silk on the back.

Exact provenance unknown at this time (we are still going through paperwork). Believed to have been purchased by the Burr sisters of San Francisco in the 1930s. (May have originated in the Meiji or Edo period in the 19th C as it is very similar to this piece in the National Museum of Asian Art: https://asia.si.edu/object/F1916.686m/)

It does have some natural imperfections, at least one loose thread, and there is a water stain on the back but it does not show on the front. Shown in photos are two tiny holes that are very hard to see with the naked eye, and one possible staining which could be natural discoloration, picked up by the camera but I couldn't find it with eyesight again...

Note:  Colors are more muted than shown in some photos - the blue and the green are not as bright as shown in some photos. Have retaken photos three times already to get the colors to match as best as possible!
