Tibetan / Nepali Milk Pot Bound with Brass Straps (in need of repair)

$10.00Price

We found a beautiful one of these on sale at auction in Australia expected to bring in at least US$ 260-390. But ours is in very poor condition. The binding brass straps are all loose and several smaller ones once hung between straps have fallen off, but are inside the pot just waiting for someone to try to repair this piece for personal or commercial use. Are you that person or will you make us take this to the dump?

The piece is interesting in that the wood sides are slats which see to fit into the base most snugly. We see staples holding the cheap metal handles in place but we cannot immediately envision how the staps or the brass decorative handle holders and lid tip are attached.

We believe it was designed to hold milk until it curdled into cheese, presumably yak or goat milk.

We believe it was bought by our parents during their year living in Nepal, 1966-1967.

Barrel H 11 5/8” (H to lid top 12 5/8”) x L 11” x W 9 1/2”

6.8 lbs
