Tibetan Buddhism and Tantric Torma Tsampa Wood Mold with Six Sides

Tibetan Buddhism and Tantric Torma Tsampa Wood Mold with Six Sides

SKU: 5072
$120.00Price

Torma molds are used to make offerings using tsampa dough for good fortune and protection. They feature a variety of images including the eight auspicious symbols, ritual pieces, demons and deities, animals, and more. A person seeking assistance would pick one that best exemplified his obstacle and a trained monk would create a dough from tsampa flour and water, press it into the mold, place it on special altar, and chant away the issue.

All six sides of this piece are covered in imagery. Beyond the eight auspicious symbols, there are warriors, dancers, ritualistic images, goats, birds, chickens, and we think we found a cat. We leave it to the buyer to study it further.

Our mother most likely purchased this in Nepal in 1966-1967.

While it does appear to have residue from prior use in some spaces, it is in very good condition.
