Taoist i-Ching Ba Gua Antique Chinese Nyona Bowl 8 1/4”

Taoist i-Ching Ba Gua Antique Chinese Nyona Bowl 8 1/4”

$50.00Price

This turquoise glazed bowl has eight scalloped sections in the bowl, representing the eight fold path, or the eight petalled lotus. Beneath the bowl, on the sides, are the iChing Ba Gua trigrams for wind, thunder, fire, earth, mountain, lake, heaven, and water.

We believe this is a nyona bowl, meaning intended for export to Chinese communities abroad. The CHINA stamp on the bottom we learned was introduced in 1891 to comply with USA requirements to denote where an item was made. We believe it was bought along with others in our collection by the Burr sisters in the 1920s or 1930s when they visited China.

It does have chips and pockmarks from the glazing process, with some chips on the rim as shown in photos. This  one is more professional in design, in terms of consistency, than some of our older ones.

H 2 ½” x Diameter 8 ¼” – 15 oz
