Taoist i-Ching Ba Gua Antique Chinese Nonya Octagonal Bowl

Taoist i-Ching Ba Gua Antique Chinese Nonya Octagonal Bowl

$30.00Price

This eight-sided turquoise bowl has signs of breaking and being glued back together, a visible crack through the middle. It has a maker’s stamp on the bottom of the footed pedestal base however, suggesting it was made in the mid to late 1880s. Beneath the bowl, on the sides of each, are the iChing Ba Gua trigrams for wind, thunder, fire, earth, mountain, lake, heaven, and water.

We believe they were bought along with others in our collection by the Burr sisters in the 1920s or 1930s when they visited China.

In addition to the crack mentioned above, there are some stains and pockmarks from the glazing process.
