RCW Cedar Wood Barrel Butter Churn with Lid and Metal Crank

RCW Cedar Wood Barrel Butter Churn with Lid and Metal Crank

$120.00Price

This family heirloom, an antique farmhouse style cedar butter churn, comes from the Richmond Cedar Works, a company which once employed 2,000 people making washing machines, clothespins, churns, “ice cream freezers” (refrigerators), and tenners (barrels) for sauerkraut in Virginia.

Estimated to have been made in the early 1900s, how it made its way into our home is unknown. It is in relatively good condition with some worn wood, but with a functioning metal crank although it has a chip on the top as shown in photos. There is some tarnishing of the metal bands that encircle the barrel and they are bit loose. The legs are a little bit wobbly when lifted, the old nails not quite holding in place, but it stands steady on the tabletop.

We would recommend it as a decorative piece. If you choose to try to churn butter in it, clean it thoroughly.

H 15” x 13” x 15” (9 ½” barrel + 5 ½” handle)
