Rare Heavy Indian Decorative Bowl / Planter / Serving Tray

We believe this is bronze, but have also been told it may be a brass copper alloy. It appears in fact to be a mix of many metals given the rough repair work and patches, as shown in photos. 
 
We believe our grandmother used it for floral decorations, but other than that, we have no idea what it may have originally been meant to be or when/where it would have been purchased. 
 
There is nothing like it online that we can find.
