Rare Antique Brass Inkwell

Rare Antique Brass Inkwell

SKU: AA 022
$50.00Price

Rare as in we found absolutely nothing like this online. The closest were some Chinese inkwells but they were much more ornate.

This one features three compartments, one open to the base, two attached to cylindrical containers, one of the latter with door with decorated hinges and slide lock. The top is sealed shut by a silver colored metal, and containers not removable.

There are many ‘love marks’ to this piece – scratches, metalwork spots, tarnish, and a deep scar leading from the corner of one decorated hinge to the edge. The lid appears to have been sealed with some metal 'roughly'... There is some residue from previous polishings as well and dust that needs removal from under the hinges.

The age of the piece is unknown but we imagine our great grand aunts picking it up in passing during their tour of the Orient in the 1920s or 1930s. Alice Burr was a famous photographer and artist.
