Joe Jones: Sailboats Print (NYGS)(18" x 23 3/4")
Joe Jones (1909-1963) was an American painter, lithographer and landscape painter whose work hangs in the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Cleveland Institute of Art, and elsewhere. We believe many of his abstract sailing pieces were done off the coast of Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey.
A similar piece sold in 2010 for $ 750 and another in 2019 for $ 400 but they were originals. This piece has the NYGS (New York Graphic Society) letters printed in the lower left corner. Unframed prints at Liebermans, which handles the NYGS catalog, currently go for $150 and up, frames extra.
We suspect this may have been gifted to our father for services to the international sailing community as it is not in a style representative of the tastes of our mother's side of the family.
It has a woven matt, reflective glass and a wood frame, which has some small nicks.
