Japanese Ikebana Style Plant Pot Holder Basket 8” Tall

This square-based round basket features a bent, tied and lacquered bamboo section above a nearly evenly woven body allowing for air. Sections are held together with worn string. Our online research suggests the body may have been meant to have four legs woven into the base which would explain the holes in the four bottom corners which appear intentional.
 
The lacquer is worn in areas and some of the strings which bind sections have deteriorated as shown in sections, especially where the bamboo joins on one side. There are also some lacquer stains on the bamboo.See photos. Age is uncertain.
