The official title of this image originally by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) is Shimada: The Suraga Bank of the Oi River. According to the Met Museum, it was created around 1834. It is no. 24 in the Fifty-Three Stations of Tokaido series (despite the no. 25 written under the artwork on the paper backing).

The artwork is not in great condition, with a tear and some streaking in the upper left area, crinkling in the upper right corner, and some damage along the right border as shown in photos.

We assume this was purchased in the 1920s or 1930s during a visit to Japan by the Burr sisters.
