The official title of this image originally by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) is Sakanoshita: Peak of Fudesute Mountain, also sometimes referred to as Sakashita online. It is no. 49 in the Fifty-Three Stations of Tokaido series, the 48th station on the coastal route. It depicts a popular teahouse for travellers which looks across a ravine to Mount Fudesute in the Suzaka Mountains.

The artwork appears to have glitter in the paint. There is some spotting and crinkling where it is attached to the paper backing on one side. There is a tear in the corner where it broke from the paper backing and rip along the upper edge, where there is some spotting. The paper backing appears to have a watermark as shown in photos. On the back, is the number 10 for reasons unknown to us.

We assume this was purchased in the 1920s or 1930s during a visit to Japan by the Burr sisters.
