According to several museums online, this image is entitled Mishima, no. 12 the series The Fifty-Three Stations of Tokaido’ by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858). But the Mishima in Wikipedia’s list looks very different. We will leave it to the experts to confirm.

This wood block print is in shades of blue and a light red, and the image is believed to date to 1841-42.

We assume this was purchased in the 1920s or 1930s during a visit to Japan by the Burr sisters, but it is possible it was bought by our grandparents in the 1960s.

The mat does have water damage which may have caused the bottom of the image to leach. We have been advised experts need to take it out of the frame to determine if it has been trimmed and what condition it is in.

The artwork has a white cream mat, non-reflective glass, and a wood frame.  On the back is a stamp stating GENUINE, the handwritten price of 300 and ‘Hiroshige 1812-1848’. A sticker from The Poor Man’s Gallery in San Francisco is probably from the company which last framed this piece.
