Hamilton Letterpress No. 3030 Quarter Size Case Drawer Insert / Curio Cabinet

$10.00Price

In an old style font, the words ‘No. 3030 Quarter Size Case’ are printed on the edge of this letterpress case. Google tells us this means it was intended to store the printing pieces for accents, split fractions, small caps, or ornaments.

The brand is stamped in wood on the back: HAMILTON / MADE IN USA / TWO RIVERS, WISCONSIN. The Hamilton Manufacturing Co. is America's largest and longest wood type maker, established  in the 1890s. They have a working museum and shop in Wisconsin. (Fun fact: They were formed when a friend begged them to begin producing wood type as it was taking so long to reach them from elsewhere in the USA. They were so well made that they then took over the market!)

Otherwise, there are no drawer attachments and no sign it was ever hung on a wall. This is the smallest of three letterpress drawer inserts available (the others filed under Other Antiques for the moment as they were made in Thailand).

There is some sticker residue on one side, cracks in the back of some cubby holes in one corner, cracks in the back of the wall on one end, and nails have stained the wood as shown in photos.

Exact age unknown.
