Eugenia Woolman (1917-2007): Chinese Gold & Silver Leaf Collage (13.5” x 11”)

$80.00Price

This piece has a Chinese theme with what looks like a signature panel which translates to ‘authentic gold and silver’ in reference to the gold and silver accents on the piece. (Gold and silver leaf paper were widely available in Thailand.)

Eugenia Woolman was an American who lived in Thailand from 1985-1993, which were described as her most productive years as an artist in her obituary. We assume she was a friend of Nancy’s, probably part of the Inkie Fingers art collective Nancy founded (its logo consisting of fingerprints of all members).

Per her obituary, Eugenia was known for her rich collages composed of hand-painted paper and mixed media. Wife of the late Dr. Myron Woolman, an educator with projects around the world, Ms. Woolman lived in West Africa, Thailand, and the Philippines. The rich visual experiences occasioned by this lifestyle deeply informed her work. She had her last exhibit only months before passing away at the age of 90.

This artwork is signed by the artist, but there is no date or official title to the piece.

The light olive green-gray mat has a shadow box setting lined in red. There is some speckling in the mat under the glass on the left side of the image. The glass is reflective (yes, we had to use an online ‘eraser’ to remove reflections on the mat below the image). The frame is gold painted, with some nicks and one notch as shown in photos.
