Antique Tibetan / Himalayan Brass Kitchen Pot or Thermos with Broken Strap

Antique Tibetan / Himalayan Brass Kitchen Pot or Thermos with Broken Strap

SKU: 5413
$150.00Price

We believe this piece was used as a yak butter tea thermos and was probably bought in India in the 1920s or 1930s when the Burr sisters visited as we know it belonged to our grandmother. We believe it is brass with tin or another light metal lining inside and brass or copper strap buckles.

This piece has a beautiful patina and some tarnishing. It also has residue in crevices of the decorative top and other detailing from what we can only assume were past polishing attempts.

The lid was hand-hammered resulting in a tight fit, requiring some effort to lift open. The ornament on the lid and the base of the pot also have dents but the piece stands steady on a flat surface. The leather strap is broken and not in good condition as evident in photos. Otherwise, we think the piece itself is in good condition.

Priced by appraiser.
