This family heirloom was presumably purchased in Indonesia in the 1920s or 1930s but we believe it was already an antique then, the only comparable found online dating to the 1800s. It was up for auction with an estimated value of $ 1,800.

We believe the wood is mahogany. Floral patterns were hand cut on the base, then painted in a deep red with gold leaf applied to parts. Remnants of gold leaf remain on the handcarved vanity. It has three shallow drawers with brass pulls, and a slot on either side of the stems for a mirror to be installed.

The piece is showing its age. In photos, you will see cracking paint, cracks in the wood, and some discoloration, but overall the piece is in very good condition for its age.
