Antique Dollhouse Furniture / Rare Handmade Mayflower Highbacked Chair (1900s)

SKU: 5544
$40.00Price

Text on paper sticker under the seat: Fac-Simile of Chair brought over in the May-flower by John Carver, First Governor of the Plymouth Colony. THAYER & CHANDLER, 46 Madison St. Chicago, Ills. There is also some illegible handwriting on the label.

Wood and textured seat have some natural imperfections but otherwise in excellent condition. Presumably never used.

We believe this chair dates back to the early 1900s when the Burr sisters were young girls. The Thayer & Chandler mail order art and craft supplies company was famous for commercializing the airbrush in 1891 so the timing is aligned. (Chandler no relation to our family!)

We found only one comparable online, selling on Ruby Lane for $ 75 with one big difference: a blue silk seat with satin trim.
