Antique Chinese Scalloped Nyona Bowl with Colorful Symbols

Antique Chinese Scalloped Nyona Bowl with Colorful Symbols

$80.00Price

The eight leafed or lobed scalloped bowl represents the eightfold path. The exterior is decorated with a scroll around the footed base, and symbols including the yin/yang symbol and peaches which symbolize longevity, immortality and fertility. (We have been unable to identify the significance of the other symbols, sorry.)

The CHINA stamp suggests it was made in the 1890s or early 1990s for export. Nyonas were pieces designed for export to Chinese communities abroad.

There is a crack that was glued back into place at some time, as shown in photos. There are also some chips on the rim, a spot of dripped glaze on one side, and natural imperfections that were the result of the glazing process. Otherwise, this is in very good condition for its age.

H 2 3/8” x Diameter 8 ½”
