Antique Chinese Scalloped Bowl with Longevity Symbols (1800s)

This is believed to date to the Tao-Kwang period (1821-1850) based on our online research. The lack of a maker’s mark or CHINA stamp suggest it was indeed made before the 1890s.

 

The eight leafed or lobed scalloped bowl represents the eightfold path, with the bowl in ground turquoise enamel. The exterior is decorated with a scroll around the footed base, yellow clouds, and what we believe are peaches which symbolize longevity, immortality and fertility. We are not sure if it is a nyona, or piece designed for export to Chinese communities abroad, although it resembles those we know are

 

There are some chips on the rim as seen in photos, as well as some drips of glaze on one side, in addition to the natural imperfections of pockmarks, bubbles, and other glazing effects. Otherwise, this is in very good condition for its age.
