11 5/8” Antique Five-Piece Brass Candlestick with Bobeche Drip Protector (1800s)

With minimal dents and nicks for its age, this candlestick can be taken apart into five pieces – a top section that screws off the center pole, and three other pieces that slide off underneath. Note: One needs to check that all pieces are straight when putting it back together!
 
[Word of the week: Bobeche. French and American term for a  drip catcher fitted to a candlestick, usually a dish like ring which can be removed for easier cleaning.]
 
In the base, one can see what is presumed to have been the original price of 4.50 and the initials A.W. which we believe are our grandmother’s father or mother’s initials. Confirmation pending. 
 
There is a dent in the base as shown in photos, but the candle stands stable. Photos also show the nicks and minor stains of a long loved piece of family history. There is minimal tarnishing. (We have not tried to polish this piece.)
